CATHOLIC SAFEGUARDING PROJECT
DELIVERING CHANGE AND BUILDING TRUST
CATHOLIC SAFEGUARDING STANDARDS AGENCY
The Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency now has its own website.
RELIGIOUS LIFE SAFEGUARDING SERVICE
Religious Life Groups bring their own charism and richness to life in the Catholic Church and safeguarding arrangements do not currently fit this.
To better serve the needs of Religious Life Groups, a new dedicated safeguarding resource will be created to replace the current alignment arrangements with Dioceses in England and Wales.
NATIONAL TRIBUNAL SERVICE
National Tribunal Service (NTS) will address the canonical matters connected to clergy discipline and canonical offences.
It will exercise jurisdiction exclusively in the canonical forum, although its competence will not be limited simply to the role of adjudication.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Catholic Safeguarding Project is the delivery of wide-ranging reforms to safeguarding structures and processes in the Church in England and Wales. In 2019, the Catholic Bishops' Conference commissioned Ian Elliott to undertake a ‘root and branch’ review of safeguarding structures and procedures.
This project is a significant positive step by the Catholic Bishops in response to the Elliott Review and forms part of our deep and demonstrable commitment to making robust improvements to safeguarding across the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
